Poster Stellars – Intercontinental Poster Competition 2021
Poster Stellars is a global design competition that celebrates outstanding poster art from around the world. In its 1st Intercontinental Poster Competition held in the United States in 2021, designers from all regions were invited to respond to a future-forward theme — Space.
My Role & Concept
- Submitted an original poster titled “Space Toy”, selected as one of the top 3 entries from Singapore
- Concept explored a futuristic vision where complex space technology becomes accessible, self-assembled kits — a playful metaphor for how technology might evolve
- Positioned rockets and space ships not as unreachable icons, but as everyday buildable tools, hinting at a world where even space becomes DIY
- The idea was grounded in creative foresight, inspired by trends like 3D printing, modular design, and personal innovation
- My poster envisioned a future retail culture where consumers could buy and assemble space gear from store-bought kits .
Selected Entry: “Space Toy” – LianWei Tay, Singapore
Thoughts
- The poster allowed me to explore how imagination and design could reframe big ideas like space into something more relatable
- It was a chance to express my design thinking
- Being selected among global entries was a meaningful encouragement that thoughtful, idea-led design can resonate
- I am grateful to be one of the few entries from Singapore featured in the competition
